Virtual meeting Announcement
The RD2021 and the BrightFocus Macular Fast TrackSM meetings have become hybrid meetings!
The ongoing pandemic, rising infections rates, and slow vaccine distributions have made it difficult or impossible for some people to attend the RD2021 in person. In an attempt to be as inclusive as possible during these difficult times was have developed RD2021 and the BrightFocus Macular Fast Track into hybrid meetings. The in-person meeting will proceed as planned, but we have added the option to fully participate in the meeting as a virtual attendee. Virtual attendees will be able to stream platform talks and will be able to ask questions to speakers. Virtual attendees will also be able to present their research posters in an interactive scientific session. The virtual attendee option is now available on our registration website.

COVID vaccinations are required to attend
COVID-19 vaccinations are required to attend the in-person RD2021 and Bright Focus Macular Fast TrackSM meetings .
The recent spike in COVID infections has demonstrated the importance of COVID-19 vaccinations in reducing infections and preventing severe illness and death. Our highest priority in policy decisions is to safeguard the health and safety of meeting attendees, staff, and the larger community. With this in mind, we are moving forward with the policy that all in-person attendees and staff will be fully vaccinated at least 14 days before September 26. We will use a third-party vendor to verify documentation of COVID-19 vaccinations. We will provide instructions on uploading documented proof of complete vaccination following receipt of your meeting registration. No one will be admitted on-site without proof of full vaccination, and there will be no exceptions to the vaccination requirements. No refunds will be issued for individuals arriving at the venue unvaccinated. We have developed a virtual platform as an option for those who can't travel, are actively infected, or are unvaccinated.

Face coverings are required to attend
Appropriate face covering will be required at all times for all indoor events.
Attendees may remove their masks only when actively eating or drinking and when presenting a lecture. Failure to follow the mask policy could result in an early departure from the meeting. Since traveling increases your chance of contracting and spreading COVID-19, please use protective measures to reduce your risks during your journey to Nashville. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide timely communications as we get closer to the RD2021 meeting.

RD2021 meeting registration is still open for in person and virtual registration All attendees are encouraged to submit an abstract to the program. Information about how to submit an abstract will be provided after the registration fee has been paid.

RD2021 Registration

The Travel Awards. We are happy to announce that the RD2021 Travel Award competition was highly successful. We received a record 196 applications, which is a 35% increase from the previous meeting. Each application received four reviews from a panel of 14 expert reviewers in the field. I’m happy to report we were able to fund 72 applications. These included 24 graduate students, 34 post-doctoral fellows, and 14 early-career investigators. Eight of the 72 awards were self-identified as underrepresented minorities.
